I grew up in Snoqualmie Valley and graduated from Mt. Si High School. I then moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington. At UW, I majored in English and minored in Gender Studies. I was lucky enough to study abroad in London, where I got to see lots of awesome Shakespeare plays and architecture. I also participated in the Honors Program, which (among other things) required me to write a senior thesis. Mine was entitled "Metafictional Dynamics of 21st Century Literature," and I focused on the author character as a metafictional device by which literature explores fundamental postmodern questions. I earned my BA in 3 years and graduated magna cum laude.
I then worked at a private tutoring center where I taught individuals and classes, managed an after-school program, and wrote and edited franchise-wide curriculum while I completed UW's Master in Teaching program. I finished the program with my Master's in Teaching degree, WA state teaching certification, endorsements in English Language Arts and English Language Learners (ELL), and an amazing student teaching experience at Garfield High School with one of my former teachers. Shortly after, I moved to Olympia and started teaching at Capital! It is my fourth year at CHS, and I love it here. |
