Upcoming SBA Testing

This week we sent out information to each family by grade level about SBA testing this May 14th, 16th, 21st, and 23rd. Please refer to your grade-level information for details.

As a general reminder, students who are testing will need a book to read for when they are done, and need to come to school with a fully charged chromebook. Thank you for supporting Capital High School's academic programs by making sure your student is ready for test day.

Community Connections

OSD Resources for Youth & Families  Looking for information about support groups, crisis lines, help with meals or bills, social and emotional wellness, or tips for taming toddler temper tantrums? You can find all that and much more here at our Resources for Youth and Families webpage.

Whether you're a family that's brand new to the Olympia School District, or just wondering where to go to find answers to specific questions you've never known how to answer, here is a great place to start!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month   Since its inception in 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month has served as a crucial platform to shed light on mental health issues, combat stigma, and promote support and understanding.

WA Mental Health Referral Service for Children and Teens.  This service connects  families with mental health providers in your community who accept new patients, work with your insurance and fit your child’s treatment needs. The Referral Service is accessible to children and teens 17 and under living in Washington state. Teens between the ages of 13 and 17 can also call the Referral Service to find providers for themselves.

School Safety - Closed Campus Reminder

School Safety Reminder: Capital High School is a closed campus during the school day.  Students are not allowed to go to their cars during lunch time or any other time without permission from an administrator. Students are welcome to sit in the commons area or outside on the commons “deck” during lunch.  Students who drive to school must have a parking permit.  Permits are free with ASB card or $5 without. Vehicles without a permit will be ticketed:  fines begin at $10.

Just Over 3 Weeks Left of School

Families are encouraged to check student grades as there is just over 4 weeks of the school year remaining.  It is not too late to work on raising grades before school ends.  Please contact your teacher if you need any assistance with your coursework.  Families can access grade information through Skyward Family Access.

Capital Thespians Ridwell Project

Capital Thespians are partnering with Ridwell for a second time this year! Starting May 1, families can bring plastic film to CHS for collection. Once sent off to Ridwell, the film will be recycled into decking! Items like Ziploc bags, bubble wrap, and grocery bags count as plastic film! During the same period, if at least 10 families sign up for Ridwell with our link here http://get.ridwell.com/CHS, the school will gain one free year of plastic film recycling!

Ridwell is a Washington-based subscription service that recycles not only plastics but also hard-to-recycle items like: food wrappers, bubble wrap, clothes, shoes, batteries, lightbulbs, and clamshell packaging. New items are cycled through every two weeks, further expanding the range of items that can be recycled. Ridwell provides you a box with fabric bags for each of the items. You’ll then collect these items over the two weeks between pickups. Once it’s time for pickup, you leave the box with the bags where they can be picked up. You can continue to reuse the bags and box each time. If you don’t need anything picked up, you can contact Ridwell to let them know. From there, the materials get transported to Ridwell partners all across the US to be reused/made into new items (learn more at this link here: https://www.ridwell.com/transparency). Prices are $14 a month for the classic plan, $18 a month for the premium plan, and $24 a month for the unlimited plan! Getting Ridwell means keeping more materials out of the landfill!

The Senior students have a google calendar invite for their appointment time that they signed up for. They also were provided a rubric. If your student does not have a google calendar invite and has not talked with their counselor or Mrs. Smith in the CCRC as to why they aren't scheduled, they should do so as soon as possible, as this is a Graduation Requirement.
