Entrance Exams

SAT & ACT Information

Students who are thinking about attending a 4-year college or university directly after high school should take the PSAT/NMSQT, the SAT and/or the ACT.

The PSAT is a practice test for the SAT and is also the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) for 11th grade students.

  • WHEN? The PSAT is given at Capital High School generally in October. Watch for the posters around the school.
  • WHO? 11th grade students are given first priority for the test. If there is space available then the test will be opened up to 10th grade students.
  • PAYMENT/REGISTRATION? Payment and registration for the PSAT can be done at the ASB office.
  • QUESTIONS? Contact Louis Avden at (360) 596-8020.

Registration for the SAT and the ACT is done through an on-line registration system.

Capital’s CEEB Code, is 480829.  It is important to use this code when registering for college tests so your scores will be sent to Capital.

Because students are likely to perform better on one of the two major college entrance tests, one strategy is to take both the SAT and the ACT in the spring of the junior year, and then take one of the tests again in the fall of the senior year. Look at the test schedule well ahead of time to avoid paying late fees. Students who meet eligibility guidelines may qualify for a fee waiver. (ACT fee waiver, SAT fee waiver.)  See your counselor to request a fee waiver.
