Capital High School is a grade 9-12, “AAAA” National Blue Ribbon award winner. Capital offers a comprehensive curriculum with advanced coursework available in every curriculum area. Additional academic programs include opportunities at New Market Vocational Skills Center, Running Start, School to Work and the International Baccalaureate Program, which is a rigorous pre-university course of study. Three quarters of Capital’s students participate in athletics and activities. Parent and community involvement include the following organizations: Site Council, Foundation, Booster Club and Parent Organization.

Additions to Capital High School have increased student capacity from 1,389 to 1,680. Remodeling completed in 2006 added 12 new classrooms, including new science and technology labs. The student commons section and kitchen space was expanded to accommodate all students over two lunch periods. The renovation also included substantial upgrades to the drama, music, art and special education learning areas.

A track and field improvement project was completed in 2017 as part of the February 2016 school improvements bond. Improvements include the installation of a synthetic turf field, striping the track, hydro seeding areas around the track and installation of gates. The track and field can be used year-round thanks the installation of recreational low-level field lighting.

The new Capital High School Performing Arts Center is the centerpiece of a comprehensive campus upgrade that includes updating exterior surfaces to improve thermal performance, weather protection and aesthetics, replacing mechanical systems and re-roofing major portions of the existing building. Construction will begin spring 2019 with project completion expected in the fall of 2020.

In 2018, our International Baccalaureate program began the "IB English for All" initiative. This initiative means that all 11th-graders are enrolled in either IB English Literature or IB Language and Literature.  This program will be expanded in the 2019-20 school year to include enrollment of 12th-graders in IB English.  Additionally, IB Environmental Systems and Societies is being offered for the first time by the science department. In the 2019-20 school year, the science department will also offer an IB Sports, Exercise and Health class.

Washington students participate in state tests annually in the spring, to assess their progress as well as the progress of our educational system as a whole.

Our state uses the Smarter Balanced assessment system, aligned to Washington's K-12 Learning Standards.
