Science

Philosophy

Capital High School’s science curriculum is designed to create scientifically literate citizens. Students will understand science and engineering as more than a body of knowledge; it is also a process of understanding the natural world that can be used to develop innovative solutions. Our students will be active learners with access to all science and engineering standards. The recommended science course pathway based on the Washington State Science Learning Standards and the national Next Generation Science Standards is Physical Science, Biology, and Chemistry. This sequence ensures that all students have access to all science standards.

Requirements

Students must complete three (3) years of science to graduate, including two (2) years of lab-based science. 

All juniors will take the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) in the spring, which evaluates their understanding of the standards.
