CHS 16th Annual Giving Tree - Donations Needed

Target gift card donations are now being accepted for our annual CHS Giving Tree to assist our students in need.

For the past 16 years, the staff, students, and community of Capital High School have spread holiday cheer to those students in need through the CHS Giving Tree.  We are now collecting $50 Target gift card donations for deserving CHS students just in time for the holidays.  Many CHS students are struggling to meet even their most basic needs. It is a blessing to be able to let these students know that they are loved and cared for by our school community.  For some, this may be the only gift they receive this year.  Last year, we served approximately 300 students through the Giving Tree program.

Homecoming Dance

Our Homecoming Dance will be held on October 10th, 2026. Tickets for students with ASB will be $20, without ASB is $25 and students on Free and Reduced lunch will be free.

We will need parent chaperones to help. You must be cleared as a volunteer to chaperone. Please email Katie Turcotte if you are able to help- kturcotte@osd.wednet.edu

CHS Speech and Debate Team

The Capital Speech & Debate season has begun. All students are welcome to join regardless of grade-level or experience. Have fun, learn lots and compete against other schools in a variety of events. Register on Final Forms to receive practice information and email questions to Head Coach Brendan Stanton (bstanton@osd.wednet.edu).

We would love to be able to include everyone! If you have trouble with your submissions, please email me (afederico@osd.wednet.edu) and I will be glad to help you! I will not be able to accept photos through email, however.

Senior photos are due October 31st, and that is a hard deadline. We will be unable to accept any senior portrait after that date. ASB photos will be used if a senior portrait is not submitted.

CiHS Information

College in the High School registration is happening now in Chemistry and Senior English classes. Placement tests will be given on Thursday, October 1st, for students who need them. Please see your teachers if you have questions.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month

We can all help prevent suicide. Every year, organizations and individuals across the U.S. and around the world raise awareness of suicide prevention during September, National Suicide Prevention Month.

ASB Cards

Don’t forget to stop by the ASB office and purchase your ASB card. It costs $40 for the year. If you are on free and reduced lunches, your card will be free. An ASB card lets you enter home free games for free, get a discount on dances, and is required if you play sports at CHS. 

CHS Booster Club News

The Capital Boosters Club special recruitment meeting is Monday, Sept. 28th, 6:00pm in the Library. Community support is vital to fostering successful programs. Come learn about the Boosters and how you can help. If you are new to Capital or haven't been involved this is a perfect opportunity to get started. See you there!

Capital Booster Club supports all WIAA sports and activities through fundraising services and community spirit! There are many exciting ways to get involved. Go Cougs!

Seniors

FINANCIAL AID ADVISING DAY and NIGHT 

The Free Application for Financial Student Aid will OPEN on October 1st. You can Learn more about FAFSA 2027-2028 on the link provided: The Free Application for Financial Student Aid

On October 15th from 5:30pm-7pm in the Library. There will be a help session for those who want to learn about other aid, scholarships and completing the FAFSA together. Please be on time at 5:30pm in the Library, so we can give you all the information you would need. Also, please bring a charged chromebook and your Social Security information for both student and contributor. 

The Early Bird Gets the Worm....So don't miss signing up EARLY in October for the FAFSA 2027-2028 school year!

ALL students at CHS learn about Financial Aid in Schoolinks, if you would like to know what they are learning, feel free to ask them to show you their Financial Aid lessons.

Juniors and Seniors

There will be a field trip to a National College Fair in Seattle (NACAC) on Friday October 16th 2026. If you are interested in participating, you must get a permission slip and turn it in to Mrs. Smith in the Career Center (CCRC), there are LIMITED SEATS and there tends to be a waitlist, so come and get your applications today.

College Fairs: Freshman-Senior 

It is a good idea to start talking with colleges to see what programs they offer and see if you would be a great fit for their school. 

Capital High School's College and Career Readiness Center offers meetings with College Representatives, please refer to SchooLinks, under Events to see who is coming to your school...You will have opportunities to talk with  them in the CCRC when they come for College spotlights.

St. Martins is hosting the Thurston County Regional PNACAC College Fair on Wednesday October 14th 2026. You and your family can go and meet college reps from Washington. If you would like to attend, please sign up to attend using this link.

Capital High School's College and Career Readiness Center's Counselor, Mrs. Smith will be taking Juniors and Seniors to NACAC in Seattle on Friday October 16th. This Fair is a National Conference and students will have the opportunity to meet with colleges all over the country and some out of the country. For information about NACAC, feel free to use this link. This field trip is a first come first serve basis and field trip rules will apply. If you are interested in attending this  event, swing by the CCRC and get your permission slip to attend. 

Testing

Some colleges-Not ALL-require College testing. Please check to see if the colleges you want to apply to will need these tests for admittance. Also, there are some scholarships that can be awarded through testing if you score high enough.

Sophomores and Juniors

PSAT: 

If you are a Sophomore or Junior and wanting to take the FALL PSAT-you will want to sign up in the ASB Office. The dates are October 19th and 20th and 26th, 27th and 29th. Once signed up you will be assigned to one of those dates. Testing is in the morning of previous dates listed. $50 fee, free scholarships available. Ask for more info at the ASB Office.

Juniors and Seniors

ALL STUDENTS:

All Students are required to do Schoolinks lessons. There will be opportunities during class time and advisory time. Students can log in through the OSD Portal under SchooLinks. 

RUNNING START AND NEW MARKET Students 

If you are a Running Start student or a New Market student Mrs. Smith has office hours for you 2 times a day on Friday: 11:30am-12:30pm and 2:30-3:30pm. If you would like to take advantage of her appointment times, please email her to sign up for these time slots at rsmith@osd.wednet.edu. There will be some Fridays she will be unavailable to help you, so make sure you send an email to sign up.

CHSPO News

CHS Parent Organization (CHSPO) supports students, teachers, and staff through fundraising and volunteer efforts focused on Teacher & Staff Grants, Staff Appreciation, and Senior Grad Night Support.

We need parent volunteers! We are mostly senior parents and need others to jump in and learn the ropes. Currently seeking volunteers for the following roles:

• Parent Rep for each class (especially Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior parents)
• Staff Appreciation Coordinator (funds are donated, pick up food, set up in staff lounge)
• Graduation Yard Sign Fundraiser Coordinator

Membership is free. Join CHSPO and help support the programs that make CHS thrive. Choose how you'll make a difference in our school community.

• Time Giver – Volunteers time and talents.
• Financial Supporter – Makes monetary contributions.
• Business Sponsor – Provides financial or in-kind business support.
• Community Partner – Contributes both time and financial support.
