CRITERIA FOR ACADEMIC ALL AMERICAN AWARD
Students who achieve Academic All-American status for the required number of grading periods (typically, six out of seven semesters) during their time at Capital High School, will receive a medallion and special recognition at the senior assembly and/or at graduation.

 

  1. Students must be enrolled full time (6 credits in a year or more).

     

  2. Students 10th – 12th grade, must have taken four out of the five classes from the following areas of study last semester: Math, English, Science, World Languages, or Social Studies.

     

  3. Students in 9th grade, must have taken three out of the four classes from the following areas of study last semester: Math, English, Science, or World Languages. (No Social Studies.)

     

  4. Students must have a G.P.A. of 3.40 or above for the semester being evaluated, not a cumulative G.P.A.

     

  5. Students must have at least one of the following:      
    - Be participating in a W.I.A.A. activity     
    - Hold a leadership role in any club or school sponsored activity      
    - Be recommended by the Music or Drama Department      
    - Letter signed by a supervisor, verifying thirty hours of community service during the semester being evaluated. You must get a signature from your music/drama teacher, club advisor, or coach for one of your listed activities.  If you need a signature from a coach who does not work at CHS, Mrs. Cognosso in the Athletic Office can sign for the coach.

  6. Students must have good attendance during the semester being evaluated. Students must not have any unexcused absences, for any class periods (periods 1st – 6th only), and 4 or less tardies. Per school policy, absences must be cleared within 24 hours of the students’ absence. Teachers, Counselors & Staff cannot change attendance from prior semesters. This is an award, and it is the students’ responsibility to monitor their attendance each semester and address any attendance problems within 24 hours (per the student handbook).

 

RUNNING START STUDENTS

 

  1. Students must be full time Running Start students, earning their AA Degree and diploma.

     

  2. If students are part time Running Start students they must have taken four out of the five classes from the following areas of study last semester: Math, English, Science, World Languages, or Social Studies.

     

  3. You must have an A or B in all of your SPSCC classes. A print out of your grades must be attached to this application.

     

  4. Full-time running start 1st semester grades will be evaluated using your 1st quarter Running Start grades.

  5. Full-time running start 2nd semester grades will be evaluated using your 3rd quarter Running Start grades.
