Drive Safely Around CHS
As we move through the school year, we want to remind all members of the Capital community—students, parents, and guardians—about the importance of driving safely in and around campus. With so many students walking, biking, and driving each day, our shared attention and patience make all the difference in keeping everyone safe.
Please remember to slow down in school zones, follow posted speed limits, and stay alert for pedestrians and cyclists—especially during busy drop-off and pick-up times. Avoid distractions such as texting or using your phone while driving, and always yield to crossing guards and buses with flashing lights.
Sadly, in the past, our community has experienced incidents where pedestrians were struck near schools. We never want to see that happen again. No appointment, text, or quick errand is worth risking someone’s safety.
We ask families who drive to and from CHS each day to set an example of care and courtesy by following parking and traffic rules, using designated loading zones, and remaining patient, even when traffic backs up.
A few extra moments of caution can prevent tragedy. Together, we can ensure that every member of our community arrives safely to school and home again each day.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our Capital community safe.
Sincerely,
Condee Wood
Principal, CHS

Healthy Youth Survey
Capital High School sophomores and seniors will participate in the Healthy Youth Survey (HYS) during advisory on Wednesday, October 22nd. Youth in Washington State have been taking the HYS since 2002. The number of young people taking the survey. has grown from only a few thousand to over 215,000 a year! This anonymous survey asks about how youth are doing, social relationships, mental health, substance abuse, risks for injury, and more. Communities, districts, schools, and public health agencies use survey results to inform policies and programs designed to support youth well-being. The HYS is a meaningful way for youth to guide the future of our state. If you have any further questions or would like to opt your student out of participating in the HYS, please email Assistant Principal Doug Anderson ([email protected]).

All students are invited to join the team regardless of grade level or experience. The team is led by Coach Stanton who brings 8 years of speech and debate experience at the high school and collegiate level. Please contact Principal Wood at [email protected] for more information or to get the times and location of practice. We look forward to having you on the team!
CHSPO News
Hello CHS parents,
The Capital High School Parent Organization (CHSPO) is reaching out with an urgent request: we need more parent volunteers.
Currently, only 5–8 parents regularly participate and 3 of them have seniors who will be graduating this year. Without new involvement, especially in board positions, we may not be able to continue the vital support we provide to CHS staff, teachers, and students.
What Does CHSPO Do?
We’re a 100% parent-run, non-profit group, and we rely entirely on the support of CHS families to make a meaningful impact. Some of the ways we support our school community include:
- Teacher & Staff Grants – for classroom supplies and other essential materials
- Senior Grad Night Party – a safe and fun celebration for graduating seniors
- Teacher/Staff Appreciation Lunches – to recognize and thank our dedicated educators
Don’t Have Much Time? That’s Okay!
We know how busy life can be—we’re parents too, juggling work, school activities, and everything in between. But here’s the good news: any level of involvement helps. Most roles require minimal time commitment, and even pitching in for an hour here and there can make a real difference.
Want to Learn More?
Join us at our next CHSPO meeting! We’ll be reviewing and approving fall teacher/staff grant requests, and we’d love for you to attend, ask questions, and see what we’re all about.
Next CHSPO Meeting: October 21st
- 6:00 pm in CHS Library (enter school from front door)
We also wanted to share a few upcoming fundraisers that will benefit CHS programs and events:
- October 18 – Red Robin (Westside location): Grab dinner at Red Robin before the Homecoming Dance and support CHSPO! Be sure to mention the fundraiser or show the flyer when you order. Red Robin Fundraiser
Please see information regarding our Senior 2026 Grad Night and our Clean Out Your Closet Fundraiser.
Warmly,
Capital High School Parent Organization (CHSPO)

CHS Booster Club
Urgent Call to the Community: Support the Capital High School Booster Club!
The Capital High School Booster Club is at risk of dissolving — and we need YOUR help to keep it alive!
This club plays a crucial role in supporting our students’ athletic teams, performing arts programs, and extracurricular activities. But without committed volunteers to serve on the Board, the Booster Club cannot continue its mission.
If you care about the future of Capital High School’s programs, please consider volunteering for a Board position. Your time and leadership are vital to ensuring these opportunities remain available for our students.
No experience is necessary — just a passion for our community and a willingness to help!
Please attend the next Booster Club meeting:
- October 21st
- 7:00 PM
- Library - Capital High School
Let’s come together to keep the Booster Club strong!
CHS Drama Production
CAPITAL HIGH SCHOOL
THEATRE PROUDLY PRESENTS
SENSE AND SENSIBILITY
By Kate Hamill
Based upon Jane Austen’s novel ‘Sense and Sensibility’
Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility will be sweeping Capital High School off its feet on October 23rd, 24th, and 25th!
SUMMARY
Jane Austen’s beloved story of sisterhood, scandal, and romance is brought to the stage with Kate Hamill’s adaptation that sparkles with warmth and wit. When the Dashwood sisters’ father dies and leaves them none of the inheritance, they are forced to move out to the English countryside. It is there that they experience love and heartbreak on a never-before-seen scale, trying the contrasting sisters of Elinor- whose reason guides her through love and loss- and Marianne- whose passionate spirit embraces romance with abandon. Winner of critical acclaim across the stage, this period drama captures the essence of 1700s England with timeless themes of loyalty, love, and the search for balance between sense and sensibility.
