Parents on Deck in School (PODS) - Parents on Deck at School
Capital High School recognizes the importance of parents and guardians and the role they play in a successful educational experience for our students. We would like to invite parent/guardian volunteers – you - to be part of our Parents on Deck at School (PoDS) program.
The goal is to have more adult presence in our hallways to meet, greet and encourage students. The time commitment on your part would be very flexible, but we will focus on the key transition times: school day, lunch times and the end of the day. If you are interested in being a participant in the PoDS program, please submit a volunteer application on the district website. Here is the link to the online volunteer application, along with some other information about volunteering in the Olympia School
District: https://osd.wednet.edu/community/volunteer
We also ask that you call the school directly and let Suzanne or Val (our trusty office professionals) at 360-596-8000 and let them know you are interested. Once we have established a short list – we will arrange a meeting to discuss the particulars! This is a work in progress. We welcome your ideas and suggestions. Thank you for your willingness to engage and help Capital High School.
If you have any questions please contact assistant principal Doug Anderson, ([email protected]).

Counseling Center News
We are sad we needed to cancel the 9th -11th Grade Information Night that was set for 2/23/23. We will return to our virtual information and registration support
Registration for the 2023-24 school year at CHS is now open! The CHS Counseling Center has developed a comprehensive, step-by-step registration process to guide you. In the below link, you will find videos and links that will inform you about post-high school options, the programs we offer through CHS, and how to request your classes for next year.
Once the class registration form is completed, students will have a one-on-one meeting with their counselor to review their choices, answer questions , check for accuracy and make adjustments. These meetings will take place at different times based on the student’s grade level. Directions and dates for scheduling your meeting will be emailed when we are ready for you (11th graders: beginning of March; 10th graders: mid March; 9th graders: Mid April). Although these meetings are generally just for students, parents/guardians are welcome especially when there are extensive questions!
You can also find this information on the CHS Website under the “Counseling” Tab.

High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP)
- If you have completed your HSBP Tasks in Naviance, Congratulations! If not: Naviance Tasks Are Now Past Due!
- If you missed the due date, keep working on them. It is likely less work than you think. Although the due date has come and gone, you still must meet this graduation requirement to receive a diploma. The CCRC can help!
- The HSBP is a Washington State mandated graduation requirement. It is a program designed to help students answer three guiding questions: Who am I? What can I become? And How do I become that? 8-12 graders have HSBP tasks each year. The Olympia School District employs a program called Naviance, where college and career exploration tools are available and these tasks are completed. For Seniors, an Exit Interview, in the Spring, is the final step of the HSBP. Seniors will be answering the above guiding questions.
