Capital High School Attendance 2024-2025

ATTENDANCE OFFICE:  (360) 596-8019

Attendance Secretary - Holly Loveland - [email protected]

When arriving at voicemail, please speak clearly and include the following information in your message:

  • Student name (please spell last name)
  • Parent or guardian name
  • Reason for the absence/specific type of appointment (it is not excused without a reason)

EXCUSING YOUR STUDENT:  A PARENT OR GUARDIAN MUST CALL THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE TO EXCUSE A STUDENT’S ABSENCE OR AN EXCUSED TARDY (excused tardy: late from medical appointment, dental).  Calls must be received within 48 hours of a student’s absence or tardy.  The voice mail is available at any time of the day to leave a message.  For attendance purposes a note will not be accepted.

ARRIVING LATE or REMOVING YOUR STUDENT FOR AN APPOINTMENT:                         Advanced notification to the attendance office saves disruption to the teachers, students and staff in trying to locate the student on short notice.

  • It is very important to understand that a parent/guardian must call AND the student must sign out AND back in with the Attendance Office.
  • PLEASE CALL the attendance office at least 1-2 hours in advance to arrange those details - the earlier the better!
  • State your student’s name, spelling the last name.
  • State the type of appointment: Doctor, Dentist, Legal, Professional etc…
  • State the time your student needs to leave or approximate time your student will be arriving at school.

When given advance notice we will send a note to have your student dismissed for their appointment.  Your student then goes to the Attendance Office to SIGN OUT.  When your student returns from their appointment they will sign back in at the Attendance Office and receive a pass to class.  Please remind your students that they need to sign in and out from the Attendance Office!

EXTENDED LEAVE OF ABSENCE:  ANY ABSENCE OVER THREE DAYS (NOT INCLUDING ILLNESS) MUST HAVE PRIOR APPROVAL THROUGH THE Extended Leave of Absence form.  Signatures from the Dean of Students, parents and teachers are all required.  This process may take a couple days to complete so please plan in advance.  Forms may be obtained in the attendance office.

EXCESSIVE EXCUSED ABSENCES:  Excessive excused absences MAY result in a Dr. note being required to excuse all absences.  CHS Administration will contact the parent/guardian.

Message from the CHS Parent Organization

Dear fellow CHS parents & guardians,

Your CHS Parent Organization (CHSPO) officers are putting our hearts on our sleeves to ask for your help.  The organization elects 4 officers each year and while we have volunteered to keep CHSPO running and meeting each month, there have been some life events happening with a few of us, as well as work preventing us from having bandwidth to do more. We know we're not alone in either of those situations! However, we're hoping a few of you might have time to help us.

Our mission as currently stated in our by-laws (which are under review as we come out of COVID & try to clean things up) is as follows:

Article II. Purpose

The purpose of the CHSPO shall be:

  1. Exclusively educational and charitable.
  2. To support educational endeavors at CHS.
  3. To promote volunteerism in support of educational endeavors at CHS.
  4. To provide a forum for CHS parents/guardians to become informed and involved in school activities, policies, and programs.

One of our favorite things our organization does is funding specific requests for teacher grants. To do that, we need funds. We are looking for ideas, and most importantly people, to run point on fundraisers. We completed a round of teacher grants in the fall, but will need to do some fundraising to do the same next fall. If we can raise enough funds, perhaps we could even consider funding some requests this spring. We love our community and seeing the amazing things everyone is capable of accomplishing!  However, we need more folks willing and able to help fundraise.

Would you consider emailing us back with ideas for how we get more people involved? Or better yet, come to our meetings and offer your ideas & time? Our meetings are the first Tuesdays of the month; March 4 @ 6:00 pm is our next meeting. We need leaders to come up with ideas and organize them, as well as volunteers to pull them off. Your CHSPO officers want to hear from you!

Thank you for considering helping CHSPO!

CHS Transfer Families

It's that time of year again to complete your annual Transfer request through the district office. If you live outside of CHS boundaries you MUST complete an annual transfer request. The 2026 Transfer request page for the 2025/2026 School year is now open. Completing this early is highly encouraged as this helps us better plan for staffing and scheduling.
