Capital High School Attendance Information
ATTENDANCE OFFICE (360) 596-8019 Attendance Secretary: Rebekah Grods
When calling the office voicemail, please speak clearly and include the following information in your message:
- Student name (please spell last name)
- Parent or guardian name
- Reason for the absence/specific type of appointment (it is not excused without a reason)
EXCUSING YOUR STUDENT: A PARENT OR GUARDIAN MUST CALL THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE TO EXCUSE A STUDENT’S ABSENCE OR AN EXCUSED TARDY (excused tardy: late from medical appointment, dental). Calls must be received within 48 hours of a student’s absence or tardy. The voice mail is available at any time of the day to leave a message. For attendance purposes a note will not be accepted.
ARRIVING LATE or REMOVING YOUR STUDENT FOR AN APPOINTMENT: Advanced notification to the attendance office saves disruption to the teachers, students and staff in trying to locate the student on short notice. It is very important to understand that a parent/guardian must call AND the student must sign out AND back in with the Attendance Office. PLEASE CALL the attendance office ahead of time to arrange those details-the earlier the better.
State your student’s name, spelling the last name.
State the type of appointment: Doctor, Dentist, Legal, Professional etc…
State the time your student needs to leave or approximate time your student will be arriving at school.
When given advance notice we will send a note to have your student dismissed for their appointment. Your student then goes to the Attendance Office to SIGN OUT. When your student returns from their appointment they will sign back in at the Attendance Office and receive a pass to class.
EXTENDED LEAVE OF ABSENCE: ANY ABSENCE OVER THREE DAYS (NOT INCLUDING ILLNESS) MUST HAVE PRIOR APPROVAL THROUGH THE Extended Leave of Absence form. Signatures from the Dean of Students, parents and teachers are all required. This process may take a couple days to complete so please plan in advance. Forms may be obtained in the attendance office.
EXCESSIVE EXCUSED ABSENCES: Excessive excused absences MAY result in a Dr Note being required to excuse all absences. CHS Administration will contact the parent/guardian

CHS Annual Giving Tree
For the past 14 years, the staff, students and community of Capital High School have spread holiday cheer to those less fortunate through the CHS Giving Tree. Your donations go towards the purchase of gift cards for deserving CHS students just in time for the holidays.
Too many CHS students are struggling to meet even their most basic needs. It is a blessing to let these students know that they are seen and cared for by doing a little special something for them during a tough time in their lives. For some, this may be the only gift they receive this year. We could not do this without the support of our staff, students and community members. We have found over the years that the best way to gift these students is with a $25 gift card selected especially for them. This way, they can truly get the gift they have been wanting or something they need.
Annually we serve approximately 250 students through the Giving Tree. Each year the need seems to rise - from the pandemic to increases in the cost of living, from utilities to gasoline - and this year is no exception for our families. What we've learned is that having a visible website to collect donations for the CHS Giving Tree is the most convenient solution, allowing us to quickly and fully provide to our CHS students. 100% of your donation will go to CHS students in need.
If you have any questions regarding the CHS Giving Tree, please contact Janet Anderson, CHS Counseling Office, at [email protected]
We will gladly accept donations at:https://givebutter.com/chsgt22 This donation link is sponsored by the CHS Parent Organization. We thank you for all your generous support during this Holiday Season.
