IB News
IB Success, IB Impact
Well done CHS IB Class of 2019! The results are in, and the Class of 2019 CRUSHED it! With 26 diplomas awarded, it had the largest number of diploma recipients since 2005. The 84% success rate in achieving the diploma (26 of 31) was an improvement of 16% over last year and surpassed the international average. And the Class of 2019 beat the international averages in English (4.93 to 4.67), French (5.29 to 5.03), History (4.71 to 4.29), Psychology (5.00 to 4.39), Business Management SL (6.00 to 4.79), Math Studies (4.53 to 4.17), Film (4.40 to 4.38) and Theater Arts (6.00 to 4.87). But what difference does that make? After all, you may have heard the myth that IB isn’t really recognized by universities. Well, the results say otherwise! The newly enacted IB equity law in WA led to the awarding of over $375,000 in credits to CHS students attending UW, WWU and WSU alone. And beyond credits, take a look at the list of selective universities the Class of 2019 will be attending. Besides our state public universities, our alumni will be attending Gonzaga, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, Cal Poly San Luis Obisbo, US Air Force Academy, Olin College, MIT, Johns Hopkins, Georgia Tech, Penn State, Boston University, Swarthmore UPS and Seattle Pacific to name a few. So while some may ask, “Why do IB, the Class of 2019 would answer, “Why not IB?”. And what’s that you say Class of 2020? You ain’t seen nothin’ yet?
Cost of the IB Drops
Now one can get even more credits via IB exams for even less cost! Beginning this year, the IB will no longer charge a candidate a registration fee - which last year was $172! Test fees were $119/exam last year, so even a diploma candidate will not have to pay more than $714 total. With ESB5410 now in place, CHS IB students - even course candidates depending on the school you attend - will have a legitimate opportunity to enter WA state universities with sophomore standing - a savings of over $25,000 when one takes into account tuition, fees, books, room and board! Pay $714, save $25,000! Now that’s a ratio one can get behind!

taking medication when school begins next fall, a new Authorization for
Administration of Medication at School form is required. The new authorization form must be
completed and signed by both you and your child’s health care provider, and
brought to school with the prescribed medication. By law, no medication may be administered
without a current, completed, and signed authorization form.
- In case of an emergency
situation when students must remain for an extended period of time, you will
need to provide the school with a three (3) day supply of medications and
