Exciting Opportunity to Host Japanese Students in May
Capital High School is excited to host thirty-five 9th grade students from Shukutoku Sugamo Jr. High School, a private school in Tokyo, Japan. We’re looking for host families to welcome these students into their homes for a memorable cultural exchange experience!
Here are the details:
- Dates: From Friday, May 16th (pick-up at CHS after school) to Monday, May 19th (drop-off at CHS before school). Please note that May 17th is the Prom at CHS.
- Hosting Requirements: Families must host 2 students (either 2 boys or 2 girls). The students can share a room, but each must have a separate bed.
- Stipend: Families will receive a stipend of $30 per student per night (a total of $180 per family for the weekend).
- No Language Requirements: You don’t need to speak Japanese or have children attending Capital High School to participate. All families are welcome!
The students will be spending some time sightseeing in the Seattle area before visiting Capital High School. This is a wonderful opportunity to engage in a cultural exchange and create lasting memories!
Thank you for considering hosting and helping make this exchange a success!
CHS Theatre Production
Our student actors, musicians, designers and technicians have been working hard on our upcoming production of Hadestown: Teen Edition.
Tickets are now available to purchase (staff - please use the student rate!!). While we are a few weeks away, I'm hoping that this will be a sell out show! Please help us promote this show and encourage students to engage with the Arts! There are some powerful themes in this show that speak to the times we are living in right now. If you are not familiar with Hadestown - it won 8 Tony Awards in 2019 including Best Musical. It is contemporary, relevant and really JAZZY!!

CHS Booster Club - Volunteers Needed
We would love to have more volunteers join our booster clubs! Our booster club plays a vital role in supporting our students by fundraising, organizing events, and helping make key decisions that enhance school programs (such as sports, theater and music). Whether you have a little time or a lot, your involvement makes a big difference!
If you're interested in joining or learning more, please reach out to (Amy Dura at [email protected] or 360-485-5885)
Board Games Needed
Spring cleaning for spring break? Ask your kiddo to tackle the games closet! The CHS library is looking for various card and board games for students to play instead of reaching for their cell phones. If you have a few that are no longer needed, we'll take them off your hands. Please check that the pieces needed for play are all there. Thanks in advance!

Community Connections
As we enter the month of April, we reflect on important themes that focus on growth, well-being, and community. This month, we recognize Autism Acceptance Month and raise awareness for Stress Awareness Month. These themes provide an opportunity to support one another, embrace diversity, and prioritize mental and emotional health.
Autism Acceptance Month
April is Autism Acceptance Month, a time to move from awareness to full acceptance and celebration of neurodiversity. It’s a reminder of the importance of fostering inclusive spaces where individuals with autism are respected and supported.

West Olympia Rotary
West Olympia Rotary looking for host families for an Inbound exchange student next school year. West Olympia Rotary has a history of sponsoring Capital HS inbound and outbound exchange students. This year the club is helping sponsor a girl from Brazil and will sponsor a CHS junior girl for exchange in Belgium next year. To complete the “exchange” our club needs to host a student from an overseas country (TBD). Usually we line up 3 families to host for 3-4 months each during the school year.
This is an excellent opportunity for a family to learn about another culture, and for the incoming student to immerse themselves in the day to day life of an American family. Host families can be reassured that their family and the student will be supported by the Rotary Club. The student will receive a monthly stipend. According to US Dept of State regulations, host families cannot be paid to host.
Host families need to be vetted, so please contact one of the following Rotarians as soon as possible if interested.
If you think your family might be interested in hosting an inbound foreign exchange student for 3 months during the 2025-26 academic year, please contact Dirk Havlak at 360-791-2315, [email protected], or Attila Talaber at 360-791-3310, [email protected]
Upcoming Events
Upcoming Events are found in SchooLinks on the HOME DASHBOARD under EVENTS. Please have your students register for upcoming events or have them swing by the CCRC to ask how to get involved.
