Transition Resources                                                                             Back to Top

There are lots of resources out there to support you in your next steps after graduation. Check out some of the great resources we have listed below!

  • CHS Alumni Support Webpage A part of the CCRC webpage, this page is here to provide post high-school planning & support for CHS Alumni. Check it out before you graduate!
  • Make Your College Plans a Reality There are important steps that need to be completed over the summer for you to be able to enroll in the fall. The tasks listed are common to most colleges. Available in multiple languages.
  • Graduate Handbook: Next Steps for First Year Students This "Summer Melt" student guide contains information on critical next steps for college. It also covers resources and support, registration, tips for commuters, common stages in the first year, strategies for students planning to transfer, and financial aid information.
  • A Family Guide: Supporting Your Child After High School The content aims to ease the initial transition to college by facilitating an on-going dialogue between a student and their family who may lack knowledge about college. It provides strategies to coach their student. The focus of this resource is to normalize the “first-year experience,” to counteract the “imposter syndrome.” The strategies help set realistic expectations and problem-solving behaviors that students will need in order to be successful in college. Available in multiple languages.
  • Native Pathways to College: By the American Indian College Fund. Features a culturally relevant guidebook on navigating the journey through higher education, Tribal Colleges exploration guide, and many more culturally relevant resources on the college process.
  • Handout: College Resources and Support Services This list identifies common student support resources found at college. Review your college or university’s website. Identify what supports you may need, and what is available on your campus
  • Resources Scenarios: These are common scenarios that students encounter during their first year in college. Using your college or university’s website and the handout: Resources & Support Services to Navigate Your Way, identify what resource(s) can help in each scenario on your future campus.

Financial Aid                                                                                           Back to Top

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) & Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA)

Financial Aid through FAFSA and WASFA is a necessary component in your post-secondary planning. Whether you plan on going to a trade school or apprenticeship program, or 4 year college or 2 year college, completing FAFSA or WASFA is necessary to fund your post-high school program.

EVERYONE is encouraged to complete FAFSA or WASFA. If you think you make too much  money, have plans to join the military, have an undocumented status or you’re only .01% sure you’ll attend a post high school program, you will benefit from completing a Financial Aid application. Many scholarships also require that students have a FAFSA or WASFA on file.

Here are some steps to complete your FAFSA or WASFA.

Step 1: Senior class of 2023 will fill out only 1 financial aid form. To find out which form you should file click HERE to answer a few short questions.

Step 2: Follow the steps of whether you’ll complete FAFSA or WASFA.

FAFSA (2023-2024)

WASFA (2023-2024)

Note: The FAFSA is for US Citizens, Legal Permanent Residents (Green card holders) and several other types of visas.

If you are a US Citizen and your parents are undocumented, you WILL fill out the FAFSA. The financial aid application is based on the student, not the parent, even though most students will provide their parents information.

Note:  If you are undocumented, you will apply with a state based financial aid application if your state has one. In Washington State, that form is called the WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid).

Here is the link to the FAFSA website

Here is the step-by-step direction on completing the whole FAFSA application.

  • To sign the FAFSA electronically, students and parents with SSN will each need to create an FSA ID.

  • If parents don't have SSN then you will print a signature page, sign and mail in.

Click HERE for a video on how to create your FSA ID.

Click HERE for an FSA ID worksheet.

Information on the WASFA including eligibility requirements and a link to apply can be found at: https://wsac.wa.gov/wasfa
