Coug Time, after school until 3 pm, & by appointment     


This is a high school course. As such I expect that you will take the course seriously and behave in a mature manner. This means you are expected to:

  • Be Prepared. You must complete the readings and assignments. The notebook should be brought to class each and every day.
  • Have Academic Integrity. Behave honestly with regard to your classwork.
  • Be Respectful. At times there will be disagreement over views. This is a healthy part of discourse and learning. Please make sure to maintain a respectful tone. Also, refrain from swearing.

Class Policies


  • Composition Notebook – 80+ pages, college ruled
  • Pens/Pencil

Notebooks will be used DAILY.

This will be where all your notes, labs, homework, and daily work will be organized. Notebook checks occur near the end of a unit & all make-up work is due at that time. For credit to be granted, responses will need to be in complete sentences.

Personal Electronic Devices

Devices (including earbuds) can be used in class ONLY when adding to the educational experience, otherwise, they are off & away. When in doubt, check the sign. Electronics will be confiscated for repeat offenders and guardians notified of their misuse.

Restroom Passes

Sign-out with time and name on the clipboard, & take the restroom pass. Reasonable use without limitation. Abuse of pass or procedures will result in loss of pass privilege for the semester.


The door is locked at the bell. Get a pass from one of the attendance kiosks or attendance office to be admitted into class.


If you are absent the day an assignment is due you are expected to turn in the assignment the next day. If you are absent the day an assignment is given you have one day per day you missed to make up the assignment per school policy.  I post information on schoology daily and keep copies of handouts and assignments in the class box. It is the student’s responsibility to get their assignments.

Homework is due the next day at the start of class unless otherwise specified.

Classwork/Investigations are due /stamped at end of class unless otherwise specified. Late work can be submitted for 80% maximum earned score.

Notebooks/Projects/Formal Lab Reports are due on date specified. If absent, on the day of your return. Late work can be submitted for 80% maximum earned score.

Tests/Quizzes can be made up if you have an excused absence. You have 5 school days to complete the missing assessment after school or during Coug Time. Retakes are avalible for scores below 80%. A maximum of 80% can be earned on a retake once student remediates on the subject.

ALL work for the unit is due by the NOTE BOOK CHECK.

NO work from that unit will be taken after that point in time.

Students with IEPs or 504s will have additional time as required by their plan.

Extensions can be granted if submitted 24 hours or earlier before a deadline (for a lab report/project) with a valid cause. This is a formal request submitted in writing.

Academic Integrity

The CHS Science Department recognizes that group work is an important component for any science class.  Well-performed lab investigations are done in groups. Because of this, there are unique circumstances in science where good group collaboration could cross into plagiarism and collusion.

Types of Academic Dishonesty

Plagiarism - the representation of others’ ideas or works as one’s own

Collusion - supporting the academic dishonesty of another student, such as sharing a document with a student knowing they have intent to plagiarize, sharing test questions

Duplication of Work - turning in the same work for two or more different classes or assessments

Cheating  - using a device, notes, or another student for answers

In order to avoid any of these actions in CHS Science courses, please adhere to this set of rules:

  1. When performing lab investigations, only raw data can be shared with group members.  Raw data is defined as any quantitative data that is read directly from an instrument (such as a ruler) or qualitative data that is observed.  
  2. Raw data must be gathered from activities performed during a lab investigation.  Data cannot be created or “made up” in order to complete a lab report.
  3. Raw data can be collected on a shared document, such as a Google Doc.  However, all formatting of this data, including the creation of data tables and correct treatment of significant figures, must be done individually.
  4. All other components of a lab investigation must be authentically written by the student.  Students in the same lab group cannot submit the same background information, purpose, hypothesis, data collection, data computations, analysis, or conclusion.  Appropriate sources must be cited using formatting indicated by the instructor (MLA, APA, or other).
  5.  Students cannot make up sources for any assignment.  All sources must be verifiable and scientifically reliable.
  6. “Copy and Pasting” an answer from the internet, or other sources is strictly prohibited.
  7. Assignments completed from previous science courses cannot be submitted to a different science course for a different assessment.
  8. Test and quiz questions must be kept secure.  This includes using technology to share pictures of tests and quizzes and discussing test questions outside of the class period.  

Teachers have the right to question work that is suspected to have broken any of the rules listed above.  Teachers may elect to submit student work through “”. If there is reasonable evidence that academic dishonesty has occurred, or a “” report suggests that any of the above rules were broken, discipline will be administered according to the Student Handbook.  

Possible consequences for academic dishonesty include the following actions:

A verbal warning

Contacting parent/guardian

Referral to administrator A formal write-up for academic file

No credit for the assignment, or re-doing the assignment for partial credit

Dear Guardian:

We feel that you should be informed regarding the school’s effort to create and maintain a safe science classroom/laboratory environment. With the cooperation of the instructors, guardians, and students, a safety instruction program can eliminate, prevent and correct possible hazards.

No student will be permitted to perform laboratory activities unless this form is signed by both the students and parent/guardian and is on file with the teacher.
