Kevin Wright (Womens Head coach) Has been coaching at Capital for 22 years - 2013 will be 15th year as head coach

Danelle Wright - Asst. coach- has been with the team for 3 years working with the girls since 2011

General Information

The girls have sent a team to state every year since 2000, thats 13 consecutive years. We have had a great run that we hope to continue for many more years to come. Currently that is the tied for the 2dn longest streak in the State of Washington for all Classications

There are only 6 girls teams that have a State streak as long as we do. They are King's(tied with us), Bellarmine. That is great company to be in! You will notice that they are both Private schools - King's is an 1A school in Seattle, and Bellarmine is a 4A in Tacoma.  Both of these schools have great traditions and mulitple state trophies to thier credit

What is Cross Country (also known as XC)

In super basic terms, we run.
although it is not that simple or that bad!! We train everyday sometimes as little as a mile or 2 and for the experienced top notch runners, get up to 8-10 miles in aday -probably not all at once -. When we compete there are races that range from 2 miles up to 3.1 miles (5000meters).

We do many fun activities (some during summer only) - Games during practice, Hikes, Bike rides, Camps, Team dinners, travel (to meets, some as far away as California)

Wikipedia entry

Cross country running is a sport in which teams of runners compete to complete a course over open or rough terrain faster than other teams. It differs from road running or track running principally in the course, which may include grass, mud, woodlands, and water. In its scoring system, teams are typically composed of between four and twelve runners. It is a popular participatory sport, and usually takes place in temperate regions during the autumn and winter when soft conditions underfoot prevail.
