Requirements:

You will choose 1 drug to research- these will be given in class. No groups will do the same drug- first come first served

All projects must have an anti-drug theme. You will not promote the use of any drug, at any time.

 

Presentation- 200 points

Either by yourself or with 1 partner you will do an Oral Presentation.

You will sign up for a day to present during class. You must be present on that day and ready to present. You will not be allowed to make up presentations.

  • Drug history
  • Form
  • Methods of use
  • Street names
  • Addictive traits
  • Health risks
  • Medical uses
  • Laws
  • Organized, knowledgeable, eye contact, speaking clearly

 

Poster or Power point- 200 points

Create a poster or power point presentation that you will show during your oral presentation (done yourself or with 1 partner). It must illustrate the dangers and consequences of using the drug. It must clearly have an anti-drug theme. Poster board is not provided. Power points must be on disk or flash drive.

 

Items that must be on poster- 25pts each

  • Anti-Drug message
  • Neatness, creativity, effort

Items that must be in power point – 10 pts each slide for a total of 200 pts

  • Must have a total of 20 slides- you can disperse them as you need

  • Medical uses

Individual projects- 50 points each

These projects you will do as an individual, not with your partner.  You will need to choose 4 of the following options. They must correspond with the drug info for each week. You may not do the same project option more than once. These must not promote the use of drugs at any time.

 

  1. Read a book about drugs and a write a 1 page summary book report. Include title, author and number of pages.
  1. Select a song whose lyrics involve drug use, abuse or non-use. Write a 1 page report discussing the attitudes toward drugs expressed in the song. Must include the lyrics (separate from the report)
  1. Collect cartoons or comic strips that deal with drug use. Attach them to notebook paper or on poster paper. Write a brief (3 sentences) comment on the cartoonist’s view of drug use. Must have a minimum of 8 different cartoons/comics
  1. Draw a picture that illustrates the effects of drug use. Picture must have noted effort, creativity and neatness. Provide a 1 paragraph description. 
  1. Select a picture or drawing and write a 2 page story about drugs that relates to the picture.
  1. Create a crossword puzzle. Title it and include a blank puzzle with clues and a separate answer key. You must have a minimum of 15 clues. Write a brief paragraph on why you used the words you chose and what point you are trying to get across. 
  1. Make a word search with a minimum of 25 words. You must provide a blank word search with clues and a separate answer key. Provide a title and a paragraph on why you used the words you chose and what point you are trying to get across.
  1. Write a poem dealing with this unit. It must be at least ½ page in length. 
  1. Create your own comic strip. It must have an anti-drug message. Minimum of 10 frames. Must be neat, creative and have effort put into it.
  1. Study the newspaper/magazines for 1 week. Collect articles that discuss drugs and alcohol. Write a 1 paragraph summary of each article. Minimum of 4 articles. Provide the date and source
  1. Create a flyer with 101 ways to have fun without using drugs/alcohol.
  1. Newspaper editorial- write an editorial for teenagers about the law and how it affects underage drinkers. Create a fictional story about a person who was affected by underage drinking. Minimum 1 page 
  1. Create a 60 second radio commercial for teenagers about the myth surrounding a specific drug. Must tape it and turn it in. Write a 1 paragraph summary on what you learned
  1. Create a 60 second TV commercial for teenagers about the dangers of a specific drug. Tape it and turn it in with a 1 paragraph summary on what you learned
  1. Design a resource fact sheet. Provide information on where you can go for help, warning signs of someone who is using, and treatments that are available. 1 page
  1. Create a board game that deals with this unit. It must work!
