Japanese 3 & 4
Japanese 3:
Japanese 3 has been designed to accommodate students who have successfully completed Japanese 1&2 and /or have had contact with Japanese elsewhere and are too advanced for Japanese 1 or 2, but are not yet prepared for Japanese 4. Course materials serve to expand vocabulary and stimulate discussion to develop your oral proficiency while continuing to develop your writing skills, as well as broaden cultural understanding of the Japanese world.
Class is conducted in Japanese, with activities designed to practice all language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. You are expected to review all assigned material thoroughly before coming to class. We will concentrate on practicing structures and communication in class, speaking the langurage itself rather than speaking about it. We assume that most grammar covered in the course is not new to most studnets, so minimal time will be given to grammar explanation. Students will quickly become aware of your own strengths and weaknesses, as well as your classmates' diverse language abilities.
Japanese 4:
This course is designed to reinforce and expand the Japanese language skills you have already acquired during the first three years of the Capital High School language curriculum. This course will help you to improve your skills with the material you have already learned but more importantly, will push you to a more sophisticated level of understanding and expression, with special attention to kanji (included compound words) and vocabulary enrichment through classroom activities. All skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking), as well as the three basic fields (grammar, literature, and culture) will be emphasized and strengthened during the course.
