Sample Solution

Lesson:  Reshape frames

  1. Open ID 7-3.indd from the server folder
  2. Save it as ID_C7_SR_Garden Party (your username) to your server folder
  3. Click the top edge of the frame containing the ghosted image with the Direct Selection tool, then drag the top middle anchor point down to the first horizontal (cyan) guide
  4. Click the Pen tool, position the pointer over the bottom edge of the frame so that a plus sign appears beside the tool, then click to add an anchor point at the 3" mark on the horizontal ruler
  5. Deselect all, click the Direct Selection tool,  click one edge of the frame to select the frame, then select the new anchor point
  6. Click Edit (on the Application bar), then click Cut

Lesson:  Use the Pen tool

  1. Click the Pen tool, position the pointer over the bottom-left anchor point of the frame until a diagonal line appears beside the Pen tool, then click the anchor point
  2. Moving up and to the right, click the intersection of the pink vertical guide and the orange horizontal guide
    [Hint:  The intersection of the pink vertical guide and the orange horizontal guide is at the 1" mark on the horizontal ruler]
  3. Moving down and to the right, click where the next vertical guide intersects with the bottom of the page
  4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until your image matches the sample solution, then click the anchor point in the bottom-right corner to close the path

Lesson:  Work with polygons and compound paths

  1. Deselect all, then click the Default Fill and Stroke button on the Tools panel
  2. Click the Ellipse tool, then position the pointer at the intersection of the cyan guide and the center pink guide
  3. Press and hold Alt, then click
  4. Type 1.65 in the Width text box, type 1.65 in the Height text box, then click OK
  5. Click the Selection tool, press and hold Shift, then select the frame that contains the ghosted image
    [Hint:  Both the circle and the frame should be selected]
  6. Click Object (on the Application bar), point to Arrange, click Bring to Front, then position it as shown on the Sample Solution
    [Hint:  If both lines of text don't appear in the frame, enlarge it slightly]
  7. Click the Selection tool, click the compound path, then add a 1 pt. black stroke to the path

Lesson:  Apply stroke effects

  1. Click the Ellipse tool, then position the pointer at the intersection of the cyan guide and the center pink guide
  2. Press and hold Shift-Alt, then drag a circle that is the width of two columns
  3. Change the stroke color to magenta by clicking C=0, M=100, Y=0, K=0 on the Swatches panel, then change the stroke weight to 3.5 pt.
  4. Click the Pen tool, then click to add an anchor point in the two locations where the circle intersects with the black diagonal lines
  5. Click the Direct Selection tool, deselect all, select the magenta circle, select only the top anchor point of the larger circle, click Edit (on the Application bar), then click Cut
  6. Click the Start list arrow on the Stroke panel, then click Barbed
  7. Click the End list arrow, then click CircleSolid
  8. Click the Type list arrow, then click Dashed
  9. Type 12 in the first dash text box, type 8 in the first gap text box, type 4 in the second dash text box, then type 8 in the second gap text box
  10. Click the Round Cap button on the Stroke panel

Lesson:  Work with advanced text features, corner effects, and drop shadows

  1. Click the Ellipse tool, position the pointer at the intersection of the cyan guide and the center pink guide, press and hold Alt, then click
  2. Type 3.25 in the Width text box, type 3.25 in the Height text box, then click OK
  3. Click the Pen tool, then click to add an anchor point in the two locations where the largest circle intersects with the black diagonal lines
  4. Click the Direct Selection tool, deselect all, click the edge of the new circle, select its top anchor point, click Edit (on the Application bar), then click Cut
  5. Click the Selection tool
  6. Click the Type on a Path tool, position it over the circle so that a plus sign appears beside the pointer, then click the path at approximately 9 o'clock
  7. Type 'We're having a garden party!  You're invited!'
  8. Select all of the text, change the font to Trajan, then change the horizontal scale to 50%
  9. Change the font to 32 pt. bold, then change the baseline shift to -8 pt.
  10. Click the Direct Selection tool, then move the start bracket on the left until the text is evenly distributed
  11. Click the Selection tool, then change the stroke color to None

Lesson:  Apply corner effects and a drop shadow

  1. Select the polygon that contains the ghosted image
  2. Click Object (on the Application bar), then click Corner Options
  3. Click the Effect list arrow, then click Fancy
  4. Type .25 in the Size text box, then click OK
  5. Click Object (on the Application bar), point to Effects, then click Drop Shadow
  6. Change the Opacity value to 90
  7. Change the X Offset value to 0, change the Y Offset value to .125, then click OK
  8. Deselect all, click View (on the Application bar), point to Grids and Guides, then click Hide Guides
  9. Save your work
  10. Create a PDF file
  11. Post the files to the Hulk server
