Philosophy

The Business Department has two broad objectives:
1) To prepare students academically to enter some form of post-secondary training, and
2) To prepare students to become entry level employees.

In more specific terms, it is our belief that:

  • Students should be allowed to progress at their own pace under strict guidelines developed between student and teacher
  • Students should be held accountable for their time and that the time accountability requirement be reflected in their evaluation
  • Students should be trained in the area of appropriate business-like attitudes
  • Students are individuals and should be treated as such
  • Students should be guided and encouraged in their career goals
  • Students should be encouraged to work within and support the American economic system
  • Students should be given an opportunity to gain leadership skills through Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)

Late Work Policy

Students are expected to turn in the work assigned on the day that it is due (refer to due date in Skyward).  It is understood, though, that sometimes students need more time to get help so the late work deadline is each Monday by 7:45 AM (either posted online or in the class turn-in basket) for the work that was "due" the previous week (that Monday - Friday).  This gives students time to come in before or after school for help or to come in during the designated Fridays where there is Intervention time (note:  this is not necessarily every Friday - please check the schedule).  I'm available most mornings around 7:15 AM and most afternoons until about 3:30 PM (usually a good idea to check if I have other commitments first).  Work will not be graded down if turned in by the Monday deadline.  Work will not be accepted after the deadline unless there are extenuating circumstances that you must discuss with me ASAP.
