Your Best Shot Project Contract

Part I - Find a photograph on line that inspires you. This can be from an online magazine, photograph site, or any web site applicable. You will model you photograph after this image atempting to emulate the format and qualities that make the image work. Incorporate in the email at least 4 sentences explaining in detail; at least two design rules you will follow or break and explain why, where you will take the picture, the camera settings you think are proper to make the picture work (lens aperture and shutter speed), and list any limits you think you need to consider before taking the picture.

Part II - Take the picture recording you settings. Print the image using filters, dodging and burning techniques if necessary. Record printing settings. Mat board mount the finished print. Scan it with the printer and publish it in your online portfolio with all camera and darkroom settings listed. Present both versions of the print on evaluation day.

15 points will be awarded for this project. The point allocation is listed below:

2 Tonal Range Use dodging, burning or contrast filters to improve the image, if necessary.
2 Print and Negatives The image should be printed 5 x 7 in. and mounted on 8 x 10 in. mat board with the corresponding proof sheet and negatives.
2 Formatting Online The online version should be less than 100K in bit depth, 72 dpi, saved in jpeg format and be within 5 x 7 inches in size. Publish the f-stop, shutter speed, film speed, camera used, enlarger height, time for exposure and any techniques used to improve the print (dodging, filter, etc.)
2 Journaling Write how you created your image on your Photo2 web page. Include atleast four complete sentences.
1 Teamwork Work with your peers in a constructive collegial manner.
1 Presentation Be present and participate in evaluation on the final day of the project. The day is set on the class calendar. You will present both the matboard mounted and online version of the print.
1 Self Evaluation Offer self evaluation of your work during class using the terms and concepts related to the project.
