Homework

Practice is absolutely necessary for success in a world language. Homework provides essential opportunities to practice outside of the classroom. Expect frequent (3-4 times per week) homework assignments. Homework is not optional and completing it on time is important for the pace of the class. Late and incomplete assignments are not accepted.

Absences

If you miss a class due to an excused absence, it is your responsibility to find out what material you missed. Assignments are posted daily on the class website. You will have the same number of days as your absence to make up the missed assignment(s), and it is your responsibility to turn in the assignment by this revised due date. Mise en train (warm-ups) make-up assignments will be posted only on the website. If you miss a test or quiz, you must make arrangements immediately to make it up before or after school.

Période 3:  Along with your map, write a description of your town and your neighborhood.  Use a variety of vocabulary for descriptions and places.  Write a minimum of 75 words.  (Period 4: This will be your homework for Monday night, so I encourage you to start on it!)

Each person will present his or her maison de rêve to the class.  Be prepared to show your floorplan/drawing and to describe the house.  This does not need to be memorized, but it cannot be read.  You may jot down a few bullet points to remind you want you would like to say.  (This will be speaking practice for Thursday's oral test!)

Nous allons à Paris! Using your partner sheetm research each of the 10 Parisian monuments.  In a paragraph for each, explain: What is it? What do you find interesting about it? Would it be on your "must-see" list if you were visiting Paris? Why or why not? This should be done in English, in complete sentences and in your own words.  Copying and pasting from the Internet is not acceptable and will receive no credit.

In case you have lost your partner sheet, these are the 10 monuments: Le Centre Pompidou, la Tour Eiffel, le Louvre, le Musée d'Orsay, les Champs-Elysées, Notre Dame, la Sorbonne, le Sacré-Coeur, l'Arc de Triompe, l'Opéra.

This assignment must be typed and emailed to me by the beginning of class on the due date.  Technology often fails - do not wait until the last minute!

What should you be doing to prepare for your final exam?

Your final exam will cover vocabulary, grammar and concepts from the entire year; however, it will focus on the most recent concepts and give you an opportunity to put together everything that you have learned in French 1.  Please expect listening, reading and writing sections.

I recommend that you begin to study with your notes and study guides that you have made throughout the school year. 

Can you…

  • …write about what you do (present), what you did (past) and what you are going to do (future using aller)?
  • …discuss what you want to do, can do and would like to do?
  • …describe what you look like, your age, your birthday and your personality?
  • …describe your family and friends in detail?
  • …ask and answer questions with a variety of question words (what, when, where, with whom, etc.)?

Key concepts:

  • Regular -er, -ir and -re verbs: meanings & conjugations (p. 108, 110, 268, 280)
  • Irregular verbs: être, avoir, faire (including expressions using faire), venir, mettre and aller (p. 98, 124, 150, 200)
  • Le passé composé of -er, -ir and -re verbs (p. 309, 312, 321)
  • Question words/expressions (p. 120-123, 261)
