CHS DECA
Description
DECA, An Association of Marketing Students, is an international leadership organization aimed at providing members with classroom and community opportunities that develop vocational understanding, leadership qualities, social awareness and a sense of responsibility to school and community. In addition to the many activities tied to classroom curriculum, there are a wide variety of social, leadership, educational and community activities available to all members.

Achievements
In 2006, 6 students qualified for the International Conference in Nashville, TN. Max Brown, Junior and David Moorhead, Senior competed in Sports and Entertainment Marketing Team Management Decision Making Event. Sophomore Lauren Delaney qualified for her Gold Level Merit Awards Project in Real Estate. While at Nationals, she graduated from the National Leadership Academy. Kelsey Charles was one of 18 students from Washington selected to participate in the National Senior Management Institute. Whitney Merz and Danielle Baker completed a Gold Level Chapter Awards Project. Capital High School DECA was ranked one of the top 5 chapters in the state. While at Nationals they particpated in the Chapter Management Institute.
A highlight of the trip was attending was attending a Rodeo/Student Show at the historic stockyards in Fort Worth, Dallas.
In May of 2006 22 DECA members took over the Westside Safeway. Students participated in job shadow experiences in seven different departments of the store. Students learned about every aspect of the food marketing industry from courtesy clerk, store manager, customer service, bakery and floral. Students had the opportunity to work with managers in each dept. and ask them career related questions.
