History of the Americas (HOTA)

History of the Americas is an International Baccalaureate (IB) course. The intent of the course is to prepare students to meet the IB requirements for Higher Level History. These requirements include completion of an Internal Assessment, and taking the Paper 3 exam. The course is also a college preparation class with emphasis on regional (US and Latin America) history content, writing papers, and engaging in historiographical thinking and communication. HOTA meets the US History requirement but differs slightly from the US History course content. The IB guideline is to cover 100 years of regional history in depth. This course covers content from colonization to WWII.
