Guardian Page

Welcome Parents & Guardians,

I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and express my excitement about working with your student this year. I love teaching science because it about interrelationships between living things and systems. Awareness of these connections can influence choices made for yourself and the world around you.

My teaching career has been diverse. I received my B.S. in Biology & Secondary Science Education from Purdue University.  My first few years of teaching were at experiential science schools.  I introduced students from NYC to the great outdoors, tagged loons with the Audubon Society in VT, investigated environmental issues at Keystone Science School in CO, and had my first “traditional classroom” at Clover Park HS in Lakewood. Then after living abroad for several years in the UK, my family settled in Olympia and this will be my third year at CHS.

You should know, I have high expectations for my students as well as for the parents and guardians. I believe in student responsibility and in teaching my students to own their choices.  Science (and life) is about experimenting and seeing what works and what doesn't. One of the most important aspects of learning is realizing it is a process that results from our own efforts (or lack there of).  At times this is hard as the adult to help foster this independence while still helping them when needed. Science shows that a teenager’s brain is still developing and we need to be there to support it’s decision making model.  It is a team effort. We will push, pull, lead, and celebrate together. This is what I need from you to start this team effort:

1)     Read the syllabus & safety information on the website.

2)   Sign the safety contract that your student brought home.

2)    Do the online survey.   LINK HERE  This survey is to better help me tailor my teaching to your child.

If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, I am always available via email, phone calls before/after school, or by scheduled meeting.

I am looking forward to a great year.

Best Regards,

Alicia Boisvert
