TECHNOLOGY

Do you like to work on mechanical things? Do you enjoy working with your hands and your brain? Do you need career education, culminating project credit, or just want to have the skills to repair your own lawnmower? If you answer is yes, you should take power technology. You will learn how to work on small engines and get the start necessary to pursue a mechanical career of your choice.

MATH

Did you know that math can be useful??? Math is used all of the time such as in figuring how much you’ll end up paying overall on that car loan!

WORK-BASED
LEARNING

Work-based Learning provides students the opportunity to receive school credit while on the job. Students who are employed and work at least 10 hours a week and have been in a related OCC Ed program are eligible to earn Work-based Learning credit.

COMMUNICATION ARTS

The world of media is awash in striking images, video, audio and graphics created to capture our imagination and communicate complex ideas. Experience the basics of digital photography, video, audio, graphics, multimedia, presentations, animation and Internet technologies as vehicles for expression.

HORTICULTURE
TECH PREP

Field trips and community service are abundant in this science or CTE class. Apply classroom learning to the real world – grow plants for the annual FFA Plant Sale as you prepare for life after high school. College credit is available. Join FFA for trips and competitions.
  WOODS
Are you looking for a possible career in a hands on field? Do you need career education, culminating project credit or just enjoy being creative? If so, then wood technology class is where you belong. The Wood Tech class gives you the opportunity to use a wide variety of tools to construct projects while learning valuable skills.

LAW & JUSTICE
Want to know what to do if you’re sued?  Learn about the civil side of the law – intentional acts, negligence & strict liability; consumer & housing law – contracts, warranties, credit, deceptive sales practices, being a smart consumer, buying a car & housing issues; & ind. rights & liberties – especially in the workplace!  Speakers, mock trials & field trips to watch real trials bring it to life!

MARKETING
Enjoy working in groups and taking field trips?  Would you like to work in the student store?  If you said yes, then you MUST take Marketing!  Learn about the world of advertising for products, sports and entertainment.  Marketing qualifies you to join DECA where you will have opportunities for competition and travel.
VISUAL
COMMUNICATIONS

Explore advanced digital photography, graphics design, multimedia and Internet technologies in a hands-on, lab-based class. We will teach you to see the world through a whole new perspective!
BIOLOGY THROUGH
HORTICULTURE

Work and play indoors and out as you learn to restore wetlands, identify plant parts and processes, grow a garden and prepare for life beyond high school. Meets requirements for WASL science prep. Join FFA for trips and competitions.
 
METALS &
WELDING

Wait! Don’t read this if you are afraid of sparks, flames and fire, but if you are interested in a great paying and fun hands-on career, or need a career education or culminating project credit, then this class is for you. Metals/ Welding is the name of the class and you will learn how to join metal using different welding techniques and equipment. Monster trucks, skyscrapers, ships, sculptures and many household items are made of welding metal. You can even earn college credit while taking this class. Try it, you might like it.
STREET LAW
Are trials fair?  What happens when a child kills?  Judges & lawyers help address these issues weekly in criminal law, juvenile justice & family law units through interactive lessons, films & visits to watch real trials in action!

ACCOUNTING
Did you know that most businesses fail in the 1st year because the owner didn’t understand the financial side of running a business? Learn how to side-step that mistake by figuring out how to make wise financial plans.

CAPITAL
NEWS
SERVICE (CNS)

Produce news that pertains to Capital H.S. and make various school project videos. You will learn video taping, editing, computer art, and design.

LANDSCAPE
DESIGN
MANAGEMENT

Combine art, business, and plant identification as you meet a client’s needs. For your culminating project, create and maintain a landscape on campus. Join FFA for trips and competitions.
   
PERSONAL FINANCE
Want to be able to retire someday?  Want to learn how to stay financially strong & not live paycheck to paycheck?  Have fun with a computer sim. that has you find a job, buy a car, rent an apartment—but watch out—it kills you off if you don’t allow enough time to eat & sleep in your day!

ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Do you want to manage or own your own business someday? Learn how through a computer sim. that has you competing against the class for market share & profits in a retail grocery store business!

WEB DEVELOPMENT
Design beautiful and powerful HTML and CSS documents from scratch, place them on a web and maintain your own site. Work with new possibilities in text, images, sound and video content on the Internet. This is the real stuff. No more training wheels. Code is poetry.
FLORAL DESIGN
Beautify your life! Learn how to use houseplants and cut flowers to make interior spaces more inviting. Create floral displays as your culminating project. College credit is available. Join FFA for trips and competitions.
   
MS OFFICE
SPECIALIST (MOS)

Want to get a job promotion with your dazzling animations & design in PowerPoint?  Learn all the bells & whistles of Word, PowerPoint, Access or Excel while you also learn how to produce professional looking documents.
 
DRAFTING
For anyone who desires to become an architect or engineer, or who is interested in mechanical drafting, this class is for you. You will learn how to draft both on a board and on a CAD program using a computer. Beginning and advanced levels are available for a class that will pique your interest in industrial design and architecture.
SPORTS MEDICINE
This is a course designed for students who plan on making health care a career or has an interest in helping with sports teams. In this program, students will learn the basics of anatomy, physiology, first aid/CPR, general nutrition, and basic athletic training.
   

DIGITOOLS
Need to learn or improve your keyboarding skills? MS Office 2007 units in Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, & Outlook will give you skills to list on your resume & to use on the job.

  GENERATION TECH (IB)
Learn more about computers, programming, robotics, problem-solving, interpersonal communication and leadership. "On the job” and “just in time” training will be the main mode of instruction. Earn your geek badge here! Geeks Rule!
 
   
DIGITAL DESIGN
Interested in computer graphics, animation and web design? Design your own creations as a hobby or turn your marketable skills into a future job.
  CERAMICS
If you like working with clay; come make a mug, or cereal bowl by hand or using the potters wheel or… follow the fun of making things to Ceramic Engineering. Join the 2009-2010 Ceramics Club for community service, great field trips and leadership opportunities.
 
    ESPRESSO / SMOOTHIE OPERATIONS & MANAGEMENT
Want to actually get on-the-job skills that will help you edge out competitors when you go to apply for jobs?  Your future employer will be impressed!  Improve your knowledge through a retail & a management computer sim. that will have you testing yourself against others in the class!
